DCNR Salutes Employees' Award-Winning Efforts

For many it was their first face-to-face meeting, but already they had been drawn together in the shared bond of pride—pride in what they do; what they have accomplished; and what they oversee.

More than 100 Department of Conservation and Natural Resources employees personally would be congratulated by their newly appointed secretary, Richard J. Allan.
Many of the faces surrounding him May 5 would be new, but not the stellar accomplishments these employees achieved.
Challenges in the environmental world are everywhere, but so, too, are solutions, noted Allan. The DCNR secretary said he saw a wealth of them as he looked out into an audience of DCNR award recipients, their families and co-workers. Promise, initiative and achievement were everywhere, he said.
“I know how proud I am of these exceptional employees, as are their managers and coworkers, and I congratulate you all on your work and the ideas that have been put forth and that go beyond the normal scope of work and expectations,” said Allan, serving as keynote speaker at DCNR’s Employee Recognition Program.
“You are truly outstanding employees and role models, and personify the future of DCNR and all that we can accomplish together,” the secretary said. He cited initiatives that included:  Development of new facilities such as the Nature Inn and the Elk Country Visitor Center; accessible forest management demonstration areas; superior maintenance of historical structures; fiscal improvements; disaster and flood response; and oil and gas guidelines.
“What is especially noteworthy is how the accomplishments of these individuals so strongly exemplify the goals and mission of this agency,” Allan said.
Officiating at the sixth annual Employee Recognition Program, the secretary presented 23 awards, recognizing 106 DCNR employees from across the state.
Honored employees received commendations and eagle pins, and team representatives accepted carved wooden bald eagle awards, in recognition of what the secretary said was “uncompromising and unfaltering dedication” to DCNR’s mission, and the resources and people the department serves and protects.
Employees saluted in the ceremony at Harrisburg’s Rachel Carson State Office Building were nominated by their superiors and selected by a screening committee of their coworkers. Honorees represented DCNR’s bureaus of state parks, forestry, facility design and construction, administrative services, and recreation and conservation.
